The Human Card/ Rite of Passage


Are you ready to be an adult? This session is for the individuals who have chosen to move out or are moving out soon. With that said, you have to complete the questionnaire below and submit it then you will hear in 2-3 business days your results. If this is your first time, don't be nervous. If you have done this more than once make sure you have changed something from the last time. Are you ready? I will hand out the questionnaire. 


Questionnaire without your parent's help!: 

1. Are you really ready to live by yourself if you aren't already, with no help with money from anyone but yourself? 

2. Did you eat today? Do you have enough food for groceries? Can you cook, something other than a pizza or mac and cheese?

3. Do you have enough money to pay for bills? How much do you think is enough? 

4. Do you have a well-paid job? 

5. Do you know how to do laundry without a parent? 

6. Do you know how to do your own taxes without a parent's help? 


I picked this approach as many "adults" don't think about the costs of moving out and what will happen after they leave their parent's house. It's not all easy and freedom like a lot of individuals think after moving out. That's when adulting happens more than ever and you, we, I have to be ready and understand it's a lot more work and a lot more expensive than we may think. (DONT MISS THE QUIZ BELOW)

Unit Plan (ROUGH DRAFT)

  I choose the book, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. With this book, I have many activities however they may change as I begin to brainstorm more. This is a ROUGH DRAFT. I need better ideas and activities I can do as I’m struggling a bit. Any ideas? Feel free to provide ideas, I am flexible and willing to take any at this point.    Week 1:  Introduction Activity (Background Knowledge)- This is where students will find a song, poem, or picture from the holocaust and make a mini-presentation for small group presentations. The Class Canon & Cancel Culture:

  Do Works by Men Implicated by #MeToo Belong in the Classroom: I've never heard of the #MeToo movement until I read the article. I thought it was interesting the points it mentioned. I do agree that we should include all types of books in the classroom and the works by men as things happen and it needs to be covered and taught in schools. As gross as some things may be (such as rape, abuse, etc) students of an older age need to be aware of such things. I don't believe they should be covered for younger ages as they don't understand; however, I feel highschool and college levels should cover such topics and include the works of men implications. In the article it mentions, “I’m convinced that teaching the mind of male domination is important,” Professor Celis said. “But now I’m teaching against the book.” Teachers in my opinion need to stay neutral in situations and topics like this and teach it with an open mind.
