Questions I have:
1. How many learning standards should we have? (I am only including two in my unit lesson plan, as this is what I could find to fit my ideas)
2. How should we go about setting our unit plan, presenting wise?
3. Is there something I'm missing or something I need more of?
What grade level do I want to focus on? Academic standards?
The grade level I want to focus on is fourth grade. A few academic standards I found that would fit into my lesson very well include standards 4.1.2.2 and 4.2.9.9.
4.1.2.2: Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text.
4.2.9.9: Integrate information from two texts on the same topic in order to write or speak about the subject knowledgeably.

2. https://www.ducksters.com/history/world_war_ii/holocaust.php (Article)- Background on the Holocaust
3. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/introduction-study-holocaust/ (Teaching Resource)- Will help for activity in week one!
4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1MqqDOxAl0 (Will help with week 3 and help me teach them theme so they are able to do it themselves within The Book Thief AND is successful)
** WHILE PICKING MY RESOURCES I THOUGHT ABOUT HOW 4TH GRADERS WHO HAVE TO UNDERSTAND WHEN IT COMES TO LINKS OR VIDEOS. **
Connections with my Unit Plan: (History)
I plan to connect my lesson plan to history and focus on the Holocaust. They will be able to learn about the Holocaust through activities, other short readings, videos, etc, along with reading The Book Thief. Below was my rough draft activities from the last brainstorm we had.
Week 1:
Introduction Activity (Background Knowledge)- This is where students will find a song, poem, or picture from the holocaust and make a mini-presentation for small group presentations. I want to create a variety of different types of material from the Holocaust and learn more about it so students can create and have that background before reading.
Read 2 Parts
Week 2:
Week 3:
Weel 4:
Watch the Movie while filling out a comparison chart: What is different and similar between the book and movie. (It doesn’t have to be in-depth but want the students to still be engaged and learning in some way).
Plan Development/ What I Need To Do:
I need to work on my monthly calendar and unit plan template and put all this information together so I can be successful and organized. I will also use all my resources and put together platforms, slideshows, and more for my students to be successful and for me to be organized in this unit plan lesson. This will help see where I may need to add or delete parts of my lesson to make it fit into a month. I'm overall really excited and have created lesson plans before for other classes and it went quite well.
