Color or No Color?
There is already a movie out there that is in black and white and it portrays and communicates feelings, emotions, and more! It's very strong in that area, as well as the book is. I feel the story is best in black and white and I feel the movie is as well; however, I do question if adding color would take away from the story and the emotions, what do you think?
This is what I think, I feel the black and white covers both the book and the movie very well, as it's supposed to create that sense of emotion and that sense of feelings that may be overwhelming to some. They also add that humor piece as well to help assist with the events occurring through Satrapi's childhood. I am however curious how the color would change that, would it have the same effect? Would things have to be changed from the book to the movie? Is anyone else curious? I feel if it was in color we as viewers would get distracted or not feel as much emotion as lighting from black and white can add so much. When it comes to covering ideas that are not easy to talk about such as Persepolis I feel the humor piece adds but black and white helps pull it all together.
I asked a friend of mine who has read Persepolis before and he believes it would be best in color because there is already that text and humor within a story. He said, "think about a comedy on Netflix, watching it's mostly in color or is all in color, it doesn't take away from the experience, entertainment, or ideas." I thought about this and thought maybe it would be best in color. I'm so 50-50 on if there wasn't a movie if it should be in color or black and white. I feel both sides are relevant and could be argued for. There are positives and negatives to both sides, I just don't know what side I lean more with at this point in time.
Also, guess what I'm doing this weekend, I'm going to watch Persepolis. Who's with me?! Fun Fact: There is a second book! Go check it out if you enjoyed the first one.
